RE: AutoSlider vs Sidewinder

It does look really strange on the 5er but is quite strong. Yes Baldy I did cheap out and only went with the sidewinder instead of the 5th airborne sidewinder. I paid $900 Canadian for it.
One thing I will mention to anyone getting one is to make sure that your 5th wheel hitch is on the axle or as close to it as possible. I ran into the problem where after the install I had plenty of room between the cab and 5er but the top of the tailgate would hit the 5er if turned too sharp. I have since modified my sliding hitch to be locked in a position above the axle and works like a charm now.

RE: AutoSlider vs Sidewinder

Tx Big Baldy...I went ahead and purchased one and so far so good. Can now do a full jackknife with no need to slide the hitch. Looks wimpy but it's probably 3 times heavier than the Lippert pin box that was on it.
Haven't noticed any difference on the highway at the faster speeds with sway.

RE: AutoSlider vs Sidewinder

I just called fifth airborne and talked to the product designer and he confirmed that it would have more sway at highway speeds but they added an friction control device which eliminates this issue.

AutoSlider vs Sidewinder

I am trying to decide between an autoslider (pullrite or hijacker) and a sidewinder king pin to allow my Dodge 2500 SB do a 90 degree turn with the 5er attached. I like the idea of both but am leaning towards the sidewinder as I already have a Husky hitch installed in the truck. The cost is also considerably lower $900 Canadian vs min 2000 for the autoslider. My biggest consern is that with the sidewinder the pivot point is 20 inches behind the axle. Wouldn't that cause more sway when travelling at high speeds? Or does it somehow lock when travelling staight?

RE: why wont my tv work with the inverter?

There is some great info hear that you need to listen too. There is a huge difference between DC (what your RV batts provide) and AC (What your Television requires). AC will travel through wires for very long distances with minimal voltage drops. DC on the other hand does NOT...voltage drops hard and quick. To minnimize voltage drops you need to place the inverter as close to the batteries as possible and use heavy gauge wires to connect to them (I have a 1800 watt inverter with a 4ft run to the batteries using 2/0 stranded copper wires (You should also put an fuse between your inverter and the batts as well to limit the amps that will hit your inverter).
Then you can run an extension to your TV (remember AC runs are fine for distances).
I use a cheap modified sine wave inverter (Xantrex XM1800) $250 that comes with a remote panel with AC passthru. Which means that I have one circuit on my breaker panel completely supplied by the inverter. However if the shore power is hooked up the inverter lets the AC pass thru.

RE: A Combo GPS/Wireless Backup Camera Worth Investigating

Looks nice but I've tried 2 wireless backup camera's and neither one had to range to reach from my truck to the back of the 5th wheel. I would opt for a wired one.

RE: Winegard dish - will it work with HD receiver?

I have the "cheap" crank up winegard sat dish with elevation sensor on my rig (or did I sold it a 6 months ago) and it would pick up HD channels fine just had to point the dish to either echostar 129 or 62 for dishnet. Not sure about the little 15 inch foldup dish will collect enough signal but the HD sats use the same circular lnb as the SD sats it's just all in your configuration. Granted with only a single lnb dish you can only have SD or HD at any one time unless you want to move the dish when switching from one definition to the other.

Xantrex XM1800 question

I'm installing a generator auto start near the remote panel for my xm1800 inverter and instead of running new wires to the battery bank for voltage testing i'd like to tap into the remote for the inverter. Out of the 4 wires that run up to the remote panel (The rj-11 extension cable has yellow, red, green, and black) which are the pos and neg feeds that pass through the inverter? It's got to have them as the remote panel displays the voltage level as well....
I have asked the same question at Xantrex support however they still have not gotten back to me.
I don't really expect anyone to know this answer but thought I'd ask it anyways...Tx for reading the question.
I'm kind of leary on using my multimeter as I'm not sure what will happen if I complete the wrong circuit, but as a last resort I'll start testing wires on Saturday (I'll start with the red and black just in case Xantrex followed standards for DC wiring)

RE: Show me your screen rooms......

Does anyone know where you can download the instructions for the Outback room. We got one with our trailer but have never used it. I set it up once at home but it took me a few hours to set it up (could've been the beer consumption though)

RE: Installed Xantrex 1800 pro in my Sunseeker 2900 LTD

Fuse Block protects the inverter. I bought mine (200A) from a marine store in Ontario off of fleabay for $30 bucks.

Yes the positive cable from the battery(ies) should have a 150 amp fuse for a Xantrex 1000 and a 250 amp for the 1800.

RE: Installed Xantrex 1800 pro in my Sunseeker 2900 LTD

apr67, I noticed that you used 12 gauge romex to connect the output of the inverter to the 15 Amp circuit that you removed from the dist panel. 15 amp circuits generally use 14 gauige romex did you just hook the 12 gauge from the inverter to the 14 gauge wires or did you have to put in a 15 amp breaker? I just bought the inverter and want to do the same setup.

Exhaust for Generac

Hello All, I have just purchased a Generac Guardian Quietpact 40G for my 5er. The exhaust that comes with it is only about 1.5' long. With most 5er gen cabinets being in the middle of the RV under the truck overhang the foot and a half exhaust just won't be long enough to route to the side of the unit (I believe it needs to be exhausted to the side for code). What have other people done to solve this problem? If I get some pipe and extend the exhaust will this cause too much back pressure?
